About The Role:

  • An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Scientist to join our busy laboratory on a permanent full-time basis
  • The role will include microbiological/bacteriology culture reading of Swab, Genital, Urine and Faeces Benches.
  • Setup of susceptibility testing
  • Performing manual microscopy techniques (i.e urine and sterile site cell counts, Gram stains and faecal stains)
  • Utilising some microbiology automation (i.e. MALDI-TOF, VITEK, Atellica)
  • The position will require you to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team.
  • The hours will vary to meet the operational & organisational requirements and will include rostered shifts Monday to Sunday, with occasional public holiday work and participation in our on-call roster


About You:

  • Appropriately qualified – Degree in Applied Science (MLS) or recognised equivalent
  • Eligible for professional membership of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists
  • Previous experience in Microbiology or within a laboratory environment desirable
  • Proficient, motivated and highly organised with great attention to detail
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a cohesive team 
  • An understanding of quality control techniques
  • The ability to work under pressure
  • Experience in microbiological/bacteriology culture reading and the use and operation of microbiology analysers will be considered an advantage
  • Must be able to live and work in Australia on a permanent basis
